The Neo-Calvinism Research Institute (NRI) is located at Utrecht Theological University, Plompetorengracht 3. NRI is headed by Prof. Dr. George Harinck. The focus of the institute is the tradition of Calvinism and neo-Calvinism and its significance for public theology, society and education. The NRI, founded in 2018, is one the world’s leading research institutes in the field of neo-Calvinism.

Religion influences how we live and think. The NRI explores how this relationship is shaped and developed in the tradition of neo-Calvinism. We promote, support and coordinate the work of researchers, shape education, organize conferences and expert meetings, and have a large collection of resources on neo-Calvinism.

NRI has two subprograms: the center of expertise Centre for Dutch Reformation Studies (CDRS) and the center of expertise Education and Identity (E-OI). In the CDRS, church historians, led by Prof. Dr. E.A. de Boer, work together on the theme Religious Life and Ecclesial Practice: Europe and the Netherlands. In the E-OI, researchers develop projects and activities aimed at supporting the identity of Christian schools. Driving force behind this is the Chair in Christian Identity, led by Prof. R. Kuiper.
