Chair on New Testament
The New Testament chair is currently vacant. Teaching and research are the responsibility of Dr. Arco den Heijer (1989) and Dr. Myriam Klinker-De Klerck (1975).
Teaching is shaped from the New Testament chair. The New Testament course at TUU deals with research on the origin and content of New Testament writings. What kinds of writings does the New Testament include? How did they see the light of day? What theological and other content can be gleaned from these writings? How do they relate to their Jewish bedrock and the writings of other philosophical and religious movements of their time? How do they reflect the socio-cultural and also political reality of those days? What cross-connections do we see between the writings themselves? And what does this mean for a “theology of the New Testament. Furthermore, attention is also given to reading and explaining the sources themselves, whether in Greek or not. Thereby we also deal with methods of explanation and the complexity of understanding (hermeneutical awareness).
Education in the bachelor has an introductory character and aims to provide an overview of the state of the art in the above fields. In the master, the lectures are more thematic in character. Together with the Old Testament department, for example, there is a module on problematic aspects of the Biblical view of God. In the master there is more room for deepening and self-study.
New Testament research at TUU takes place within research group Biblical Exegesis and Systematic Theology, a collaboration with Theological University Apeldoorn. In this, biblical scholars and systematic theologians seek fruitful interaction together. The 2018-2023 research program is entitled “Discriminating love.
