On 14 October 2025, Vanessa Nakate will speak on her work as a climate activist, especially her attempt to voice concerns about climate change from an African perspective.
Vanessa Nakate grew up in Kampala (Uganda) where she organized strikes to call for action on the climate crisis and has been active protecting Congo rain forests. She is fighting to make the African voice heard on a global stage, for instance at the United Nations COP26 conference in 2021. She is the founder of the Tard Foundation and the Rise Up Movement. In 2021 her book A bigger picture: my fight to bring a new African voice to the climate crisis was published. In her view: ‘no voice is too small to make a difference’.
The lecture will take place at the Theological University Utrecht (Plompetorengracht) at 3.30 pm and will be followed by a reception with drinks.
Entrance is free but registration is required.
